Third Eye Chakra

The third eye chakra is responsible for how we perceive the world. The sixth of our seven chakras, it is located between the brows, just above the bridge of your nose and behind the eyes. The chakra is responsible for the link between your mind and the outer world. When your inner and outer worlds are connected, you experience clear thoughts and self-reflection. The gift of your sixth chakra is the ability to be mindful and live in the present moment. When your third eye is balanced, it gives you the ability to open your mind to deeper understandings and expand your intuition. That innate sense of knowing and wisdom. The energy center is commonly associated with the element of light and the color indigo.

Your sixth chakra is motivated by knowledge, reflection, and intuition. The third eye symbolizes your connection to wisdom and insight, allowing you to connect with the inner guidance from deep within your being. The chakra is important for perceiving the subtle qualities of reality. This is commonly referred to as intuition; allowing you to open up to inner perception. The energy center is also responsible for your ability to self-examine and self-reflect. It even gives you the ability to integrate your creativity and logical thinking! So much is integrating at the third eye; wisdom, intuition, self-reflection, vision, logic, imagination, and creativity.

When the third eye chakra is imbalanced, it can cause emotional and physical stress. The disruption of energy can affect not only the third eye chakra but the entire chakra system. When the chakra is underactive, it means the chakra is experiencing a blockage from the flow of energy. An underactive third eye can negatively affect your ability to concentrate, process information, and cause you to be fearful of the unknown. You may also not trust your own intuition. Questioning yourself and your actions. On the other hand, an overactive third eye means the chakra is receiving too much energy. This can manifest as overindulgence in your imagination and excessive daydreaming. Your head is too up in the clouds. You may often feel overwhelmed and mentally exhausted, or even experience indecisiveness and clouded judgment.

Luckily, there are ways to balance and restore the harmonious flow of energy to the third eye chakra. The following practices can be integrated daily so you can quickly return to an open mind and strong intuition!

Ways to balance your third eye chakra:

  • Connect with light: Your chakra is highly influenced by light from the sun or moon.

  • Listen for wisdom: Open yourself up to new ideas and understanding

  • Yoga: Poses should focus on inversions like Downward-facing Dog, Child’s Pose, or Supported shoulder-stand.

  • Third Eye Chakra Affirmations: Repeat affirmations such as “I trust my intuition,” or “I am wise, knowledgeable, and open.”

  • Crystal Healing: The third eye chakra is heavily influenced by amethyst.

  • Aromatherapy: The best smells to balance the chakra include rose, sandalwood, cardamom, and orange.
